About Alliance Excavating & Stone Works — Sweet Valley, PA’s Local Driveway Repair and Drainage Experts
We're Not a Big Company. We're Your Neighbor.
A Local Crew That Does the Job Right and Stands Behind It
There’s a version of this story where we talk about mission statements and core values written on a wall somewhere. That’s not us.
Alliance Excavating & Stone Works started in March 2020 with something simpler and more personal than that. We saw a problem that homeowners across Sweet Valley, Hunlock Creek, Back Mountain, and the surrounding communities dealt with year after year — driveways that kept failing, drainage that was never addressed correctly, and money spent on gravel that disappeared with the next storm. And we knew how to fix it properly.
So we built a business around doing exactly that.
We are a locally owned, owner-operated excavating and stone works company based at 216 Booth Rd, Sweet Valley, PA 18656. We specialize in gravel driveway repair, new driveway installation, regrading, and drainage solutions for homeowners and property owners throughout Luzerne and Wyoming County. Every job we take on gets the same treatment: find the root cause, fix it from the ground up, and leave a result that holds.
We’ve been doing it that way since day one — and our 5-star reputation on Google, Yelp, and the Better Business Bureau reflects it.
How Alliance Excavating & Stone Works Got Started
OUR STORY
Born Out of a Real Problem We Saw Every Day
We’ve lived in this part of Pennsylvania our whole lives. That means we’ve watched the same cycle play out for years in neighborhoods all across the Back Mountain region — a homeowner has a driveway that turns to mud every spring, calls a contractor, gets a load of gravel dumped on top, pays for it, and six months later it’s back to the same problem. Sometimes worse.
It’s not that those homeowners made a bad decision. It’s that the job was done wrong. Gravel sitting on a weak, unsupported sub-base doesn’t stay. Gravel on a poorly graded surface washes away. A surface that has no drainage plan just moves the problem somewhere else — usually toward the garage or the foundation. And in a region that sees around 45 inches of rainfall per year, combined with hard Pennsylvania freeze-thaw cycles, those problems compound fast.
We started Alliance Excavating & Stone Works in March 2020 because we believed homeowners in this area deserved a contractor who would actually solve the problem — not just come back to take their money again after the next storm.
What We Set Out to Build
From the beginning, our goal wasn’t to be the biggest excavating company in the region. It was to be the most reliable one. The one that shows up when they say they will. The one that explains what they’re doing and why. The one that fixes the driveway right the first time and doesn’t disappear when you have a question.
We focused our work where we could do it best: gravel driveway repair, base rebuilding, regrading, and drainage systems designed for the specific conditions of rural and semi-rural properties in northeastern Pennsylvania. We kept our scope tight so we could do it well.
That focus has served our customers — and our reputation — better than anything else we could have done.
Our Value
What We Believe About Doing This Work the Right Way
We've seen homeowners spend thousands of dollars over several years on gravel loads, patch jobs, and quick fixes that didn't hold. That money could have paid for a proper repair once. We'd rather do the job right the first time — even if it means a more honest conversation about what the property actually needs — than take your money on a fix that we know won't last.
The soil conditions in the Back Mountain region of Pennsylvania are not the same as conditions in other parts of the state. Clay-heavy glacial soils don't drain naturally. Properties with steep grades have erosion challenges that flat-lot contractors don't encounter. The freeze-thaw cycle here puts real stress on any surface or drainage system that wasn't built with those conditions in mind.
We live here. Our family is here. Our neighbors are our customers. When we do a job in Sweet Valley, Tunkhannock, or Harvey's Lake, we're not moving on to the next market. We're staying in the same community and standing behind the work we left behind. That's not a policy. It's how we operate.
What Sets Our Driveway Repair Company Apart
Most driveway problems — soft spots, washouts, ruts, mud, water pooling near the garage — are symptoms of base and drainage failures that have been ignored or patched over. We don't cover symptoms. We diagnose the actual cause and repair it properly: sub-base excavation, compaction, correct grading, and drainage engineering matched to the property.
Every project we complete uses state-certified stone aggregates that meet Pennsylvania standards for quality and performance. We're not cutting corners on material. The stone we use is matched to the job — the right size, the right mix, placed and compacted correctly.
Driveway and drainage emergencies don't follow business hours. After a bad storm, when your driveway is destroyed and you can barely get your vehicle in and out, you need someone who's available. We're open every day of the week from 7AM to 5PM, and we respond.
We will never charge you just to come look at your driveway and tell you what it needs. Every estimate is free, on-site, and given in plain terms you can actually act on — whether you hire us or not.
